How can I get involved?

The goal of the Christian life is to become more like Jesus. The way God planned that this should happen is through active involvement in a local church. Practically speaking, that can be accomplished at Selly Oak Elim in the following ways:

Come to Sunday services

We come together twice on a Sunday (10:30am and 6:30pm) to celebrate God’s goodness and faithfulness, as well as to receive encouragement, biblical teaching and other ministry. We encourage everyone in the church to attend on Sundays.

Join a Key Group

Larger churches can often be a little overwhelming for new people. It is for that reason we encourage people to get involved in a small group (i.e. Key Groups or the 'Catalyst' group for students). These groups are an excellent way to get to know other people in the church and provide an informal environment where people can be mutually-encouraged to move forward in their walk with God. Get in touch with Matt Churchouse on 0121 471 1133 or email keygroups@sellyelim.org for more details.

Find a way to serve

We all need an opportunity to serve, to give away, to use the gifts and talents God has given us. There are numerous ways that you can serve God in this church - and we can never have too many people involved. Even when it appears that 'all the bases are covered', so to speak, there are always vacancies for those who have a heart to serve. Have a look at our various ministry areas, speak to whoever heads-up that team, and then...get stuck in!

Pray corporately

Prayer is an indispensable part of what we do. There is a prayer meeting on Tuesday each week (7:30pm in the new building) as well as a time of prayer before the morning service on Sunday (10:00am in the Harry Manning Room).

Obtain the blessing of your previous church

If you are joining us from another church, we urge you to return there first and, in humility, go to the leadership and ask for their blessing for you to move to this church.

Church Membership

If you are considering settling here as your place of worship, please check out our notes on membership which you can download from the following link Click here to read notes on Church Membership. We also do student membership for those of you who are just local for studying.
