What are Key Groups?

Since the early church, Christians have gathered together in small groups, meeting in people's homes and other locations. They met to worship, to pray, to share fellowship, to be instructed in the Word and to care for each other's needs. Jesus himself lived in the context of a small group for most of his earthly ministry, sharing his life with his twelve disciples.

We don't stop being church when we leave the building after our Sunday services. Whenever Christians meet together with Christ at the centre, they are being church - it is about relationships, not structures and meetings. Key Groups provide a great opportunity to meet together during the week in a friendly and informal setting. They provide an opportunity to build solid friendships with others in the church and encourage one-another, working out together how faith relates to everyday life. So our purpose statement for Key Groups is simply this...'Being church. Doing life.

Please see below to see where your nearest group meets. Email matt@sellyelim.org for more information or to be put in touch with a group.

Why do Key Groups exist?

We want to become 'a church where no-one stands alone and no-one stand still' - that is our purpose. In other words, we desire that people experience genuine biblical community and genuine growth in their walk with God. Our 5 aims for Key Groups are tied into this - we want people to:

GROW in their relationship with God (1 Peter 2:2)

REACH those who don't yet know Jesus (Matt 28:19-20)

A     Be ACCOUNTABLE to one-another (Eph 5:21)

CONNECT with one-another and the wider church family through meaningful relationships (Heb 10:24-25)

    EXERCISE GIFTS to build one-another up (1 Cor 12:4-7, 1 Tim 4:14)
